Hiking to the Dam

These are photos of the dam on our property that was built in the 1800's. Best we can tell, it was built by some of my family that lived on the property at the time.

Trip to Home and McCouls

Over Easter I met up with a good friend at McCouls Public House, I wasn't able to get a lot of pictures but I did get a good shot from the balcony. Also, being Easter, I went home for Easter dinner with the family. I was able to get out with the camera and take some pictures of around the house. A slightly sobering experience, but one I will always cherish.

Driving down I-40, tried taking a few pictures...I liked this one.

Most of the family that was at the Easter Dinner

I'll always love this house.

Downtown Asheville

Yesterday I visited Asheville, and it allowed me an opportunity to photograph downtown, something I haven't been able to do in any city yet. It's a different atmosphere in comparison to shooting say, night shots, or portraits, but I enjoyed being able to get out and try some new things...needless to say, I'm learning I need more lenses.

For some reason I've always loved old buildings like this...especially where they've been knocked down

Sign of the past.

Sign of the present

This was just me playing around with some settings. I thought it looked neat.

To me, this alley would make sense in Europe. (Note the pigeon, these guys were EVERYWHERE, and tame)

This was outside of a little Mexican bistro.

Been trying to play around with focal lengths to get that quick drop off.

Odd yet neat statues downtown.

Another sign hearkening to the past, but with a modern film.

This was a wall of photos that I came across. Credit to: www.meyouanddoom.com for the wonderful pictures on the wall

This was a coffee shop built into an old double decker bus. Note the driver who has been there much too long.

Other side

I loved this personally.

Mountain Shot

I was able to take a short visit to the mountains yesterday evening, and while I didn't get to use my camera as much as I would have liked, I was able to get a couple of really nice shots. They were taken a little later than I wanted to take them. Enjoy!

First Portraits

Last week, my friend sent me a message asking me if I could come take some headshots for her...having never done portraits, I of course said "yes" but when asked how much, I laughingly replied "lemme take them first...I've never done these, they may be horrid"  Turns out, they weren't half bad. Here is a small selection of what we took. Again these were headshots so weren't meant to be super intricate. That'll come later I suppose.

Starry Night at Home...And New Logo!

I had been wanting to do this for a while, and just hadn't had the chance to. I happened to be in town this weekend for a separate project, and while I was in town I took some star photos at the ol homestead. I didn't get to do them as much as I'd like, because the huge light at the street was overpowering, I hope to get to go back soon and go down into the woods for some better ones.

Also, as you can see at the top of the page, Type|Forty is introducing a new logo! Not a huge difference from the old one, but I think it looks a bit cleaner:

Rainy Day playing with Focus (and a Bonus!)

Here's a new one, told you I'd stop doing nighttime pictures sooner or later...These are from a few days ago. Basically I was enjoying the rain and decided to see if I could do some higher speed pictures to catch the rain drops. I got two pretty good ones and learned a few things about the camera. On top of that, I was able to have some fun with focal lengths. The second two pictures are the same angle, just focused different...

BONUS:
This was me goofing around with the video ability for the camera...for future research.

Two New Night Shots (I promise to do some day shots soon)

I'm just having a ball with this camera...and I do realize the need to do some day shots...I'll get there. These two shots were literally just outside my door...one was a stroke of luck however. The whole reason I took these pictures was because I thought the fog and street lighting made a really cool image
This one was luck simply because my neighbor showed up, pulled in, backed up, and got ready to leave, which gave the bushes a nice illumination AND a short light trail. (20s, f/14, ISO 100)

This was what I was going for originally, lots of dark shadows lit up by the fog and lights...(10s, f/22, ISO 100)

Mocksville NC

Was coming home from my New Years Trip and happened glance over in Mocksville and saw they still had their Christmas lights up...I toyed with the idea for a moment and then pulled over to take a few photos. Both the camera and my tablet were running out of battery, and it was late and cold, so I didn't stick around too terribly long. Just took a few and got back on the road home. Again, some more long exposures, but less due to trying to get car lights, and more just to get a good shot of the Christmas lights.
Loved the way this building looked, was the first shot I took really.

Shot down main street, Focal Length 18mm, f/22, ISO 200, 64 second exposure
